Recreation
Greenwich boasts approximately 32 miles of coastline, exclusively open to town residents, with its main beaches at Greenwich Point (a sprawling 143 acres), Byram Beach, Captains Island and Island beach. Both islands are served by the town’s ferry, which is a short walk from Beacon Hill. Greenwich maintains 8,000 acres of protected land, over 1,000 acres of town parks, 35 town tennis courts, 2 indoor ice rinks, 14 public marinas and a 158-acre, 18-hole public golf course. Just off the top of the Avenue, the newly renovated YMCA greatly improved many of its facilities, including the Olympic size swimming pool, which is designed for both competitive and recreational swimming programs.
Surrounding Greenwich, set in the country, is a broad selection of some of the most highly revered private clubs in the country. Clubs such as Stanwich, Burning Tree, Tamarack, and Greenwich Country Clubs offer world-class golf, swimming and tennis. Yacht clubs are as popular, with Belle Haven, Indian Harbor, Old Greenwich, Riverside and Greenwich Boat & Yacht clubs, all within minutes of Beacon Hill. The Greenwich Philharmonic is a magnificent yet charming theater for music lovers, while the Bruce Museum scores as one of the best museums in CT, appealing to everyone.
